Quick answer
Each declined SRD month shows a reason from a database check (Home Affairs, banks, UIF, NSFAS, payroll, SASSA grants). If the reason is wrong, appeal that month on srd.sassa.gov.za within 90 days (appeal regulations).
When an SRD month is declined, the status page shows a reason. Each reason comes from a specific database check. Knowing which one helps you decide whether to appeal, fix a record, or wait for the next month.
Other wording (for example about debtor, deceased or other records) can also appear. If you see a reason not listed here, note the exact words and ask SASSA on 0800 60 10 11.
Three rules that apply to every decline
Each month is separate. A decline in one month doesn't mean the next will be declined.
You have 90 days to appeal each declined month.
Appeal only if SASSA's information is wrong. The Tribunal checks the facts.
Frequently asked questions
Which decline reason is most common?
"Alternative income source identified", because SASSA checks bank deposits every month.
Can I fix a decline without appealing?
Fixing your records helps future months. To change a past declined month, you need to appeal.
