"Identity Verification Failed" is one of the decline reasons SASSA shows on the SRD status page.
What "identity verification failed" means
Your details didn't match the Home Affairs population register when SASSA checked them.
It applies to that month only. SASSA checks again every month, so you can still be approved later. Check every month on the SASSA status check.
Common causes
- Your name or surname is spelled differently from your ID
- A wrong digit in the ID number
- Home Affairs records are outdated, duplicated or flagged
- Expired permit or asylum document
How to fix it
Correct any mistakes in your application, fix Home Affairs records if they're wrong, then appeal. Full steps are in our identity verification guide.
Use the same spelling as your ID everywhere: SRD application, bank account and phone registration.
How to appeal
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and open Appeals.
- Enter your ID and phone number, then the SMS PIN.
- Choose the declined month and the reason that matches your situation.
- Submit within 90 days of the decision, then track your appeal.
