SASSA sometimes asks SRD beneficiaries to reapply or reconfirm that they still need the grant, for example when the grant is extended. The SRD is currently extended to 31 March 2027.
When you need to reapply or reconfirm
- SASSA sends you an SMS asking you to confirm your application.
- Your status page shows a prompt to reapply or confirm.
- Your application was cancelled and you still qualify (canceled status).
- The grant is extended and SASSA announces that existing applicants must reapply.
You don't need to reapply every month. If your application is active and months are being assessed, keep checking your status.
Step by step: reapply on srd.sassa.gov.za
- Open srd.sassa.gov.za and look for the reapplication or "confirm application" option.
- Enter your ID number and cellphone number, then the SMS PIN or link.
- Check your personal details and update anything that has changed.
- Confirm the declarations about your income and other support.
- Submit and expect "reapplication pending" for a while.
Tips
- Use the same cellphone number as before if you can. If it changed, update it first.
- Check you still meet the eligibility rules, especially the age limit (18–59).
- Only follow SMS links that go to srd.sassa.gov.za. Fake "reapply" links are a common scam (SASSA scams).
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose my old months if I reapply?
Months already approved stay approved. Reapplying affects future months.
I turned 60. Should I reapply for SRD?
No. At 60 you can apply for the Older Persons Grant instead.
Is there a deadline to reapply?
When SASSA asks you to confirm, it gives instructions by SMS or on the portal. Follow them promptly.
