A canceled SRD status means your application is no longer active. Unlike a declined month, which is a decision about one month, a cancellation stops the whole application.
Common reasons for a cancellation
- You cancelled it using the cancel option on the official site.
- A duplicate application was found, for example two applications with the same ID.
- You now get another grant, such as the Older Persons Grant after turning 60.
- Your circumstances changed, for example you became employed.
SASSA doesn't always give a detailed reason on the status page, which is why asking the call centre helps.
Canceled vs declined
| Canceled | Declined | |
|---|---|---|
| Applies to | The whole application | One month |
| Can you appeal? | Not through the SRD appeal for a month | Yes, within 90 days |
| Fix | Find out why, then apply again if eligible | Appeal or wait for later months |
How to start again
- Check you meet the SRD eligibility rules.
- Apply on srd.sassa.gov.za with your ID and the phone number you'll keep using.
- Add banking details in your own name.
- Check your status every few days.
Frequently asked questions
Can someone else cancel my SRD application?
Cancellation requires access to your details and an SMS PIN, so protect your PIN and phone. If you think someone cancelled it without permission, report it to SASSA.
Will I get back-pay after a cancellation?
Months after a cancellation are generally not assessed until you apply again. Ask SASSA about your case.
