"Existing SASSA Grant" is one of the decline reasons SASSA shows on the SRD status page.
What "existing sassa grant" means
SASSA's records show you already receive a social grant for yourself, such as a Disability or Older Persons Grant. The SRD can't be paid on top of another grant for the same person.
It applies to that month only. SASSA checks again every month, so you can still be approved later. Check every month on the SASSA status check.
Common causes
- You get a Disability, Older Persons, War Veterans or other grant in your own name
- A grant was recently approved for you
- An old or cancelled grant is still linked to your ID in SASSA's system
How to fix it
If you collect a grant as a caregiver for a child (like the Child Support Grant), that is not a grant for yourself, so this decline is wrong: appeal it. If an old grant was stopped but still shows, ask SASSA to update your record, then appeal.
If you really do receive another grant for yourself, the decline is correct, and your other grant is usually higher than R370.
How to appeal
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and open Appeals.
- Enter your ID and phone number, then the SMS PIN.
- Choose the declined month and the reason that matches your situation.
- Submit within 90 days of the decision, then track your appeal.

Frequently asked questions
I only get a child grant for my children. Why was I declined?
That shouldn't count against you. Appeal the month and explain that you're the caregiver.
My disability grant ended. Can I get SRD now?
Yes, if you meet the other rules. Make sure SASSA's records show the grant has ended.
How long do I have to appeal?
90 days from the decline decision for each month.
